A quotation that cheered me up today - quoted in an opinion piece in the London Evening Standard, in defence of spinsters, broadly defined as women who do not settle down in a permanent relationship and have babies:
"There have been several Duchesses of Westminster, but there is only one Chanel"
-- Chanel
In some obscure way it reminds me of one I have on my desktop at work (the French pronunciation is important for this one):
"I have many good moments, but the one I prefer is when I kicked the hooligan."
-- Eric Cantona
I think they do have a common theme going on there. Other than being French.

Its all about individuality. I really should read that Chanel book thats been hanging round my bookshelves forever.
Great humour...an out of the proverbial box thinking lady, I see!!
I do wonder if this is going to bounce in a different direction in a few years? ie Nature's figured out there's no need for continued exponential growth of people in the UK so people start loosing interest in having babies.
But that doesn't mean that people beyond a certain age can't decide to couple up.
You'd choose someone from the perspective of a lot more wisdom and experience than a lovestruck 18 year old. Your lives (hopefully) are a lot more sorted out too.
And then just enjoy life together :o)
Robert Fulghum wrote about something similar about a decade ago about how people getting married a second time approached it completely differently.
So maybe we're not facing an epidemic of "spinsters" after all.
I read it too and made me smile.I see the theme and I like it, be who you are and say what you feel.
