Egg and Chips Pugliese

I don't know why it is, but ever since I started to recognise the style of Pugliese - even before I knew the name - I have always thought of it as egg-and-chips music.

A free-range egg, obviously, probably organic, and proper chips. Not a wicked battery egg or "fries" or any of that rubbish. Proper fried egg with a rich runny yellow yolk, and proper chips, crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle with lots of potato flavour, correctly fried in the right sort of oil, and just enough salt, perhaps a touch of pepper.

You do have to be hungry, or it's totally wasted.

I've heard he was a Socialist, perhaps he wouldn't mind.

What an unusual definition of his music, but as often you have got it just right. Simple dishes are transformed into a work of art just by choosing the best possible ingredients and good cooking.

Pugliese was a communist apparently. Whenever you see a red rose in a portrait of him, it represents his alliance with the communist ideals.

For me Pugliese is more of a dark, rich, chocolate fondue...

Funny how he brings up the urge to eat.

I don't know, fondue ... nice as a snack but unsatisfying as a meal. It doesn't make me hungry except for more music. Some of the nicer Nuevo-y stuff could be chocolate fondue, though.

He was a communist, and he suffered for it! He was imprisoned for it! He had to have a bodyguard! Being a communist in Latin America 1945 - 1985 wasn't a good idea. His popularity as a musician might well have saved his life, this lean, frail-looking musician with an incredible spirit.
