Fail.
£11.29, or £7.50 in the 2-for-1 offer.
Clumping, flaking and smearing on BOTH eyes - definitely not suitable for the hammering of Proper Tango, not really much use for anything else, on me anyway.
I'm wondering if waterproof is the wrong approach, because the problem we're dealing with here is contact with warm skin, and that probably adds up to a fairly good oil-based remover. The best result I've had so far (new bottle to be tried next weekend) were with a non-waterproof kind that had an undercoat. Further experiments to come, but I think £15 is too much for mascara.
Just a thought - have you tried getting your eyelashes dyed? Not as dramatic as mascara but certainly more visible than non-dyed lashes without the risk of smudging... I get the DIY kits which work fairly well as long as you get your eyelashes oil free before using!
ReplyDeleteNot really my thing - I think that's too much trouble, and they're already black anyway so I'm not sure it would make much difference. Also I never wear makeup for work, so I'd probably feel funny.
ReplyDeleteI use the non waterproof mascara from couleur caramel (http://www.couleur-caramel.com/home.html). Don't know if you can get it online somehow, but it's really great. stays on, plus it is bio/vegetal :-) Not really cheap though... I hope it helps !
ReplyDeleteAgree waterproof/non-waterproof doesn't make much difference when the remover is oily heat from a milonguero's face. I go for mascara that is supposed to be removable with warm water. Hold hot face flannel in front of eye for a moment so steam starts to dissolve mascara then rub gently with warm flannel. SO much better than applying chemicals to eyes. (Recommended by my ophthalmologist who by the way recommends same method for cleaning face and is in her 50s with wonderful natural-looking skin).
ReplyDeleteGood example: Clinique lash-power mascara long-wearing formula.
Tip for the milonga- try applying thin line of black or brown eyeliner under lower lashes instead of mascara on lower lashes. Doesn't smudge as much and anyway doesn't look bad if it's a bit smudgy.
@Tango en el Cielo, I think you are on to something there as I remember having very good results for a while with one I used before - it had a white undercoat, and recommended removal in exactly that way. And it came off very cleanly, like little tubes. I've bought a new bottle and it's on my schedule for testing tonight!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome to test it on my cheek tonight! In fact we could do a 2-way test - Q is will we know whose mascara is in which smudge?
ReplyDeleteif you're going to Cara that is. Guessing you won't be doing your LGTN thing 'at the festival tonite
ReplyDelete@TEEC: Guessing correctly, CUL8r. Given the dances available at Cara tonight, I'd need my head examined, never mind my mascara.
ReplyDeleteThey're really missing a trick not showing tango in the adverts. Its the ultimate test!
ReplyDeletethikn the type of mascara Tango en El Ciel is referring to is the same as 'blink' that i mentioened in my other comment. the kind that you have to sort of drag off with cotton wool and warm water as opposed to oily make up remover - Vicky B
ReplyDelete@VickyB, yes, I think it must be more or less the same - I tested a similar one on Friday. Writing up!
