Galen - "What have you done to your quarters?" Dureena - "I made it the right size. I don't know why everybody else always makes things huge. This is the way I like it, nice and small. Have a seat."
They on the other hand have tried to fill up all the space, which considering they've got rather a lot of it ends up messing with the scale. If they got rid of a lot of the elements it would be less like Alice in Wonderland.
No, I think it's the total failure of the details to correspond with the overall vision. It reminds me of me of a note-to-self which has generally served me well - "don't buy the cheap version of the dress when your younger sister already has the expensive version. Buy something else".
What was the architech on when this was designed ? I had monochrome indigestion by 2 m., little I knew, there was more to come. They made a meal of it, deserts included by the pool.
The commentary is funny, unintentionally, but the building certainly isn't. It makes Saddam's palaces look like profoundly conceived and remarkably executed Cultural Monuments. Both, it seems, built out of a lot of human suffering.
Er - I think the funny is fully intentional. It's just a really tasteless house for sale. The drug lord stuff is made up. Most of Jim's videos are less funny, but that's because this material is pure gold.
I'd like to think Jim's commentary is deadpan deliberate. Like the hard-boiled protagonist's cynical, world-weary stream of consciousness narrative from a Raymond Chandler novel.
Forensics had scrubbed and left. Smell of bleach on the walls. Gumshoe Jim sweeping the grounds, scavenging for clues the cops had missed. Almost expecting him to find a hotel room key or matchbox near the stump of the missing statue (maybe the falcon was hidden in it?)...
I love filling gaps like this with stories....sort of like a cross-word puzzle. ;-) I am sorely tempted to have fun with Ms H's impending jacuzzi report (if she cares to put one up)!!!
Thank you Ms H. I will enjoy Jim's further adventures at my leisure.
I could write something like that about 33PP. Stories just lurking all over the place, but I know I may want to go there again one day and get out alive.

I particularly liked the water side death-trap...
water slide death-trap
ReplyDeleteI like the juxtaposition between the black and white tiling and then that flea-bitten brown my-dog-craps-on-this carpet. Pure class..

ReplyDeleteAh...the deserted lair of a meso-american drug lord with a Scarface complex.
ReplyDeleteThe room and trinkets to entertain three parties at once.
Pool bar for the honeys to perch while sipping mai-tais.
But the real give-away are the pillars. All those pillars. De rigeur for cops and hired gimps to take cover from each other during a fire fight.
Find us another one Jimbo.
That's definitely the vision here, although I'm intrigued by the two identical climbing frames. Two wives, two sets of children? Seperate but equal?
ReplyDeleteI don't even know what a mai-tai is.
Which reminds me that if my trains were running this weekend I would be very tempted to find out what 33pp are doing, exactly, with a jacuzzi.

@Gamecat, another Jim classic you may enjoy: Investment Opportunity ("hmm ... good livin. Specialy if you like it ... remote"). And Jim unmasks the running pool trick, and the story of Dictionary Hill. Although neither is quite up to the standard of the first as to content; only as to delivery style.
ReplyDeleteI'll take care to leave a place around the Jacuzzi. ;)
